Everything in this place is tasty. Go for the choocha sampler to start with. The Aush soup is also amazing.

The fact that this place is not Zagat rated is beyond me, If you like ethnic food this as good as it gets.

Excellent out of the blue discovery. Bold flavours in their sambozas with a lovely light and crispy shell, interesting combination of sweet and savoury veggie platter and all very reasonably priced. Attentive service despite a packed house on Saturday night. Tasteful decor. My first 5 star review!

There is really good food, and the restaurant is decorated very well

This place has been an Oak Park institution for the last 20 years for a good reason. The food is delicious, the portions are generous, and the price is reasonable. I honestly have never had a bad dish here, so don't be afraid to try something new. Or you could give the lunch buffet a try, they always have a selection of their most popular dishes available for a great price.

Stay away from this place they will charge you for service charge with your bill without your knowledge and ask for full service charge payment. Its a ripp off place and they always recommend the most expensive menu.

The food is excellent! I enjoyed the Chicken Matar and will definitely order it again in the future. The environment is very upscale but the price is reasonable. I'll be recommending this to my friends!

Khyber Pass is a wonderful eatery in the heart of Hillcrest. It is under new ownership, however the dishes remain largely the same. The owner, Cyrus, is very personable and obviously is invested in making customers happy. He was very attentive and the food was delicious! We ordered the appetizer platter and kebabs, which were perfectly made. The menu pricing is a good value as well. 10/10 highly recommend!

I have had nearly every meal on the menu and they are all fabulous. Amazing flavor for both vegetarians and meat lovers. If you're a tea drinker, the chai and the black cardamom are loose leaf and rich.

Food is good and tasty but portions served are less.

Khyber Pass has quickly become one of my family's favorite restaurants! The food is some of the freshest, tastiest and most flavorful I've ever had. The unique seasonings bounce off your taste buds leaving you begging for more. Even more, the restaurant staff are some of the sweetest, nicest, most accommodating people you could ever meet. They will bend over backwards to make your entire experience as comfortable and relaxing, as possible. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone inquiring. I continue to bring more and more friends with me, whom themselves come back for more. My personal favorite menu items are the Cherry Lamb, appetizer sampler, Kofta kabobs and chicken curry. Also, don't leave without trying their baklava!

Disclaimer: I’ve never tried their food. I was visiting San Diego and decided to get some Afghan food, called this place to ask if they’re open and the man who answered started randomly ranting for a good 5 minutes about how they had to close the restaurant and repaint the walls while I waited quietly for him say no we are closed. I’d just like to wish him good luck! He seems to care very much for his customers! Next time I’m in San Diego this is where I’ll be going!

In the ever changing restaurant landscape of the area this has lasted the test of time and it's clear why. They had a simple menu of very authentic afghan dishes that they do really well. The staff is super nice and the place is very nicely decorated and always well maintained. I love coming here for a date night. Highly recommended!

afghani food, mmm, super tasty. Visited about four, it was not full. Had a friend come into town and she asked me to take her here again. The place has a nice feel to it.

I've been to their old location on Convoy, many moons ago, and surprisingly found them in Downtown SD! Brought the family here, their first time, and they absolutely, loved it!! Same delicious food as I remember! I highly recommend the Kyhber Pass Special Platter!! Mantu or Aushak for the app!!

Due to acoustics of the place, it gets very loud. Food is good. If you want your meat med-rare, better ask 3 times because it will come back well done.

Second time at Khyber Pass did not disappoint. Appetizers are ultra fresh and tasty. Good entree portions. Kafta kabob is excellent. Green chai tea is not to be missed. Authentic and friendly. Perfect place for a quiet date.

Afghan food is so exotic and delicious and these guys have mastered it. Their service is just as great as their food. I am very grateful for this place in San Diego. They are also vegeterian friendly with a great variety of rice dishes stews, and appetizer and of course tasty kabobs for meat eaters
Vanessa Salazar

Wow this place is good! On our first visit here we ordered a vegetarian appetizer sampler and the veggie qormah plate. The flavors were complex but mild. We were completely mind blown. Such a good introduction to Afghani food!
Vittorio Roberti
This restaurant and food were spectacular! The soup alone was mind boggling, as was the chicken and lamb kabobs! The appetizers, from the spinach to the mushrooms, and the rest were breath taking! Also, try the cardamom tea! There is a dash of Earl Grey with it that sends it straight over the top!Service was top notch and very, very helpful if you have questions about the food! Owner is very, very friendly and loves to discuss the food and history if you are interested and so inclined! Moderately priced and quick service without rushing you, especially for a busy Saturday night! Can't go wrong!

One of my favorite restaurants! Everything delicious and fresh.

It was good. They could do some work around customer service but other than that, the food tasted really good. My favorite part was the starters. Very tasty.
